2021「辛丑」干支色紙 / 2021 “Kanoto-Ushi” Zodiac Shikishi (Metal Ox)

世界中のそれぞれの家に、私の絵を掛けてもらいたい。そして、私の描いた絵と時間を共有してほしい。

そんな想いから、干支色紙は生まれました。

干支という身近な題材であれば、芸術を愛する方はもちろん、普段あまり美術に触れる機会のない方にも、自然に受け入れていただけると考えたからです。

色紙という形式ではありますが、制作にあたっては本画や額絵と変わらぬ気持ちで、一枚一枚丁寧に描いております。

毎年この干支色紙を楽しみに待ってくださる方々の存在が、私にとって何よりの励みであり、心の支えとなっています。

この干支色紙を通して生まれるささやかなご縁が、皆さまの日々の暮らしの中で、静かに寄り添う存在となれば幸いです。

黒牛を描く際に用いている絵具「純黒朱」が、すでに製造中止となった顔料であることを知り、何軒もの絵具店に問い合わせましたが入手できず、代わりの絵具で描くしかないと、半ば諦めておりました。

ところが、不思議なご縁としか言いようのない出来事があり、奇跡的にその「純黒朱」が手元に届き、ご注文いただいた絵を描くことができております。

そのような経緯もあり、この作品は「自分が描いた」というよりも、**「描かせていただいている」**という感覚で筆を取っております。

本作では、「金」には純金箔による砂子および截金（野毛）、「銀」にはプラチナ箔による砂子および截金（野毛）を用いております。

また、金箋紙（金地）には純金箔を、金箋紙（金地）にはプラチナ箔を、それぞれ蒔いております。

When painting the black ox, I learned that the pigment “Jun-Kuroshu (Pure Black Vermilion)” I normally use had been discontinued.I contacted several art material shops, but was unable to find it, and eventually resigned myself to using an alternative pigment.

However, through what can only be described as an unexpected turn of events, the pigment miraculously reached me, allowing me to complete the commissioned painting as originally intended.

Because of this experience, I approach this work not with the feeling that I am creating it, but rather that I am being allowed to paint it.

In this piece,Gold is expressed using sunago (sprinkled flakes) and kirikane (noge-cut decoration) made of pure gold leaf,while silver is expressed using sunago and kirikane made of platinum leaf.

Pure gold leaf and platinum leaf are each applied onto gold-leafed paper (kinpaku ground), creating a subtle contrast in light and presence.

It is the quiet anticipation of those who welcome these works into their homes each year that supports me as an artist and gives meaning to my practice.
